Woah, thats longer than i’s expecting. My partner had her wrists done and off in 6 weeks. But she stuck with the casts for that whole time. Good to hear the new age plastic ones are more comfy!

This is one of those books that you’ll likely find on almost all Aussie kids bookshelves, or would at least know it from their childhood.
I read this book often and so much of this book is quintessentially Australian. The foods, are all typical Australian faire for the time it was written.
I’s having some Lamingtons yesterday, i have a Vegemite sandwich in my hand right now.
Even Australians penchant for gambling gets a look in, for better or worse. (The casino in Tassy)
I’m from Perth, and practically the only thing we’re well known for over east is our beaches, and where do those two possums end up? Yep, on the beach in Perth, (i like to imagine its Cottesloe, not sure why).
Almost every town here has a Lawn bowls centre, its the national sport no one names.
Even the Snake is illustrated in a way thats reminiscent of the Rainbow Serpent. (At least to me), which links to another Australian story, its probably the best known of the Indigenous dreamtime stories.
For me every page contains deep connection to Australia, even if some of the foods are Kiwi. But even that fact is huge. The Kiwi’s have a huge influence on Australia as a nation, and our food culture reflects that. I think i remember seeing that theres ~2million kiwis in Aus, and i believe, i’ve family, neighbours, and friends who are all Kiwi.
Your kid might not find out who the PM, or Governor General is from that book, but they’ll understand some deeper cultural things about Aus, just about all of which still hold true today.
The only difference between when this book was written, and now is we’ve added more to this cultural story since.
Sorry about last weeks lack of weekly chat, i forgot again, (Eastering/ANZACing), until the weekend. And then i couldn’t face Nath’s sneering approbium at my tardiness, my will faltered at the thought. /j ;)
@[email protected] How’s the cast??
Russell said the land was zoned “private community purposes”, which had among others an objective to “provide sites for privately owned and operated recreation, institutions and places of worship”, but said for authorities to deem this billboard functioned as a fundamentally private or community objective would make a mockery of the definition. He noted Aquinas did not pay council rates on its land.
Wtf, if thats the case, this shouldn’t even be a glint in their greedy little eyes then.
Interesting, i’d have thought housing/cost of living would’ve been on a list like that. I thought it was a fairly big issue going into the Canadian election?
Just read this about Bullwinkel, Guardian - All to be won in the West: a Coalition catfight, sheep fury and the battle for Bullwinkel.
Definitely be interesting if it goes Nationals instead of Liberals, and Mia Davies is just about as high profile as you can get for a Nationals candidate. I’d be surprised if Labor holds it after the Keep the Sheep business.
Worst thing about the farmers and their dramatising of the live sheep export closure is they’re ignoring the huge opportunity they could be on the cusp of with Chinese sheep meat exports due to the decoupling between US and China. The Chinese mightn’t be fond of Australia, but i reckon we’re regardless a preferred supplier for any raw material input they want. Consistency and predictability is something the Chinese likely value, that we’ve generally delivered.
(Sorry if that spiel sounds a bit callous about the ol’sheepies)
Kim Mubarak
That is an interesting scramble of the generally held positions. Not surprising though, i’m finding more people aren’t identifying on a policy level with either of the two thus far mainstream sides.
I actually think this could be a boon for the Nationals over the Liberals in this country, as they’re vaguely more ‘lefty’ economically, while having that ideological libertarrian facade, however farcicle their libertarianism is. I find the most true libertarians end up pretty far ‘leftish’.
What is a piece of paper worth in this Age.
The Americans have just pissed on a lot of international trade agreements, and have had a soft stance of ‘rules for thee, but not for me’, for the whole post war period. The Russians, don’t stand by anything it seems. China has simply ignored their international trade agreements at times.
The planet turns, power fluctuates. Ukraine might not always be so reliant on the USA as it is. And the interests of their next partners may be far more closely aligned.
The worlds rules are changing as we speak. No idea where it ends up, it largely depends on the decisions of many national leaders, but i’m certain agreements made between countries in this time, means less, and is less enforceable than they were a decade or more ago.
Well damn, thats a good point about the irony.
But i don’t know, i’ll have to whack it up on my servers c/meta for a final admin decision. Just thought i’d float the idea alongside this post today.
Its such an issue. And the self centered voting patterns of the country has killed so many meaningful reforms that could have built up to really tackle the problems by now.
Hmm, definitely not married to the name ‘safe as houses’, but ‘housing crisis’ i dislike to describe the current problems.
‘Housing Crisis’ suggests the problem is new, or relatively short term. That it wasn’t predicted by every bumbling goofball and their dog as countries announced tax incentives, or bank deregs, or whatever housing policies have led to the market in its current state where-ever you live.
But also, i’s thinking of having a broader mix, rather than the shitshow of housing in western markets, but articles about Indonesian housing, or Fijian, Mexican, anywhere really.
So no Jewish peoples lived there before the State of Israel you reckon?.. hmm
Leaving the above aside, because its a dead end for both of us. The removal of any peoples, just like Israel is trying to do to the Palestinians now, won’t lead to a peaceful future.
Take it from a person whose a product of colonisations, invasions, and genocides. The marks aren’t erased by moving the opposing people on. History is always remembered, something Israel is going to learn the hard way.
The only options for the future are a form of historical pragmatism, or a continuing series of violent crimes against each other, with the turns of history favouring one population with more strength over the other at different times.
Belltower Times Post. I suppose i only obliquely referenced it at the time. Thought it was a big enough event that a link on here wasn’t very useful.

Colour me shocked, public transport? A thing? Gadzooks! /j
There is a weird internet cult about him, true. But the things he said were important, adding greatly to the body of thought that makes the world we live in today.
Its pretty flippant to disregard his words on the control of resources, just because he never sat behind the wheel of the 20th Century cart.
Not really a fan of allowing corporations ‘control over the means of transportation’.
I bet Marx could come up with a great explanation of why its a bad idea.
But i’m not him so i’m just gona go with Dennis Denuto’s, “its the vibe”.
it should have never been made our problem
The cleaves between the faiths have exsisted there for thousands of years. Israel is a new power, but the participatory Abrahamic religions are not. Nor are most of the peoples there. Its best to remember European Jewish weren’t the only peoples to build up Israel.
I think you’ve gone too far with your comment.
This sounds like a really innovative project for sustainable large project construction.
They’re doing everything, solar panels, concrete recycling, re-use of old furniture, replacing diesel with a hydrogen based solution, replacing diesel with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
Alright Perth! You heard them, we need to fuel for the trucks! Eat more chips!
Oh man!! I hope you’re alright, i feel bad for laughing, but thats some serious bad luck on the timing.
Looks like the Easter egg hunts going to be pretty tame for you this year.
Casts can be such a pain in the arse. Makes everything slow and hard to do.
Completely altered my partner and i’s holiday in North America a few years back. Still had a great time, but we had to content ourselves with the West Coast, or go theough a whole rigmarole of cast breaking ,then new casts twice over to carry on the original itinerary.
Theres this one digital billboard that i can see from over a kilometre away shining brightly into drivers eyes at night. I think its along Tonkin hwy. The digital ones are ridiculously bright.
