My reasoning for doing so in the community I mention is just because it’s a music community, and I really don’t want new people to the community getting the impression that they and their music tastes aren’t welcome, especially if the downvotes are coming from people blanket downvoting their All feed rather than from community members themselves.

This would likely just be with people I see who have a history of doing this according to modlogs, and not with regular users who happen to downvote a post.

I don’t think it’s always hidden data and more dependent on the fedi software you use, since I do remember people a while ago getting upset with Kbin and their public upvotes and downvotes.

Answering my own question, lol, but to throw my own hat in the ring and participate, there used to be this radio station in Edmonton called Capital FM that I would listen to every so often at home and also be the only station my workplace would play over their intercom system. Bunch of classic rock stuff.

I remembering hearing “Go for Soda” and “Patio Lanterns” a tonne those days, and was shocked when I brought it up to some American friends who liked classic rock, and they told me they never heard of either of those songs. Apparently Kim Mitchell isn’t that big a name outside Canada.

I don’t listen to a lot of Snotty Nose Rez Kids, frankly their music isn’t quite my taste having trying to give their music a chance on multiple occasions.

That said, this is a tragedy, especially considering all the duo has done to put a spotlight on indigenous music on the national stage, and I’ve always had a great amount of respect for all that they’ve done and what it symbolises.

This was a long time back, but Blahaj Zone defederated with the LemmyNSFW community a while ago since LemmyNSFW had a community by the name of “Adorable Porn”, reason being that they thought it was content that appealed to pedophiles and the likes.

The community had some irl pornographic content with cutesy sorta vibes, mainly of petite women. The admins of Blahaj Zone basically demanded LemmyNSFW remove the community, or they would defederate since they thought it was reverse jailbait, adults made to look like minors.

The community description didn’t really help at all seeing that it had the term “child-like” there, which is likely what set the spark for the entire interaction, but it was copy-pasted from a dictionary definition. Also pouring fuel on the fire iirc was the fact that the admins of LemmyNSFW have English as their second language, so that might have also gotten in the way of things.

It’s been a while since this all happened, but from what I remember they removed “child-like” from the community description, but Blahaj Zone ended up defederating anyway still of the opinion that the community’s purpose was to appeal to pedos.

I just remember seeing this all go down cause for a time since I was windowshopping for a new instance to move to, and was using Blahaj Zone’s website to check what was posted to 196, and saw it the defederation notice stickied to the homepage.

Had a conversation with Liberal candidate for my riding during her campaign office opening about PR.

Honestly, while it wasn’t quite the answer I hoped for, I did appreciate that she didn’t beat around the bush with her stance, and it did have me thinking about things. Essentially the gist of her stance was that while she as an individual did think it was a good idea to institute PR, she felt that doing it with the House of Commons might be a huge undertaking that would take time, and that a faster approach would likely be to reform the Senate from being by appointment, to having them represent voters proportional to the vote share.

End of the day it does come to actions in the House of Commons, but seeing that she seemed to be a very genuine and down-to-earth candidate despite her involved political background definitely has my hopes up that there will be movement within the Liberal party to get things shifting in the right direction, even if it takes a little more time than what’s preferred.

Human rights are not on the debate table, and you frankly saying they want to “maximize rent” as if they’re leeching to profit off the country rather than have a means to reasonably support themselves fiscally is downright disgusting.

If a rich person decided to buy the resources off the indigenous, and they decided it was in their best interest to take the offer, then yeah, while I’d be opposed to the idea of that, it’s still their treaty rights to decide for themselves.

Treaty rights are human rights and they are not on the table, and to suggest otherwise in any matter is to ignore the bullshit indigenous people have had to deal with for generations. They are to be included in the conversation because they are quite literally more “Canadian” than anybody else in the country and deserve to have their voices heard and their standard of living raised just as any other person’s should be with harvesting our natural resources.

Answer the question directly. Do you, or do you not respect the rights of indigenous people to their ancestral lands? Do you or do you not believe they have the right to dictate the projects that happen on their treaty lands and how they benefit from those projects?

Or do you want to see Canada see the profits of the exploitation of these resources, all while these people continue to beg for fucking potable water, left behind yet again by the federal government?

Tell us how you really feel about indigenous people rather than hide it behind this thin veil.

So you’re of the opinion that we should just say “fuck you” to indigenous people and their treaty rights, and just continue exploiting the resources of their ancestral lands that we invaded and violated their rights to all to make a quicker buck?

What do you think is going to happen, that indigenous people are just gonna say “nah” and purposely be a pain in the ass for the government? Cause if that’s what you think of them, which this thought process of “oh this just gets in the way of things” heavily implies, then perhaps that’s a you problem and not a problem of the government’s to respect and reconcile with the people it’s fucked over since Europeans and the likes stepped foot here.
