My hormones are so low my gyn said I shouldn’t have periods. Yet I do. And the past year it’s become more frequent. I just had one two weeks ago and starting again today. The past few years the first day is pure hell and I lie in bed in misery. Hopefully it’s just a few years to go but damn a hysterectomy would give me 16-20 days of my life back a year. Thanks I needed to vent.

Hormone levels don’t really factor in during perimenopause. You could look at BCP/IUDs, or taking progesterone to help regulate/stop periods if bleeding is persistent. Otherwise, I suggest getting your iron levels checked as well.

Could a POP be an option for you? I’ve started taking Slynd a month ago because of hypermenorrhoe and so far I’m happy with it. First “period” was very weak and with 5 days unbelievably short for me. I got frequent headaches though but I’ve read it gets better after 3 months and I stay hopeful. Edit: I’m soon 49 and haven’t taken any pill after age 19.

I got my last IUD last year. Copper. I really hoped this would be done soon. Have estrogen patch and progesterone 300mg too.

BTW, I don’t take any other hormons besides Slynd. I have long had problems with fibroids but they’re not growing anymore after focused ultrasound therapy.

OK, maybe an option to check. Is asking another gyn for a second opinion possible where you live? I’m thinking about the dosage of estrogen and progesterone. I’m no medical professional but maybe they’re too high?

I had an IUD, too. All it gave me was even heavier bleeding. But that was just my case. Yours might be different. Do you have uterine fibroids? These can cause heavy bleedings, too.

Hope you are doing better! Did you ever get your hormones retested? The menopause subreddit says testing only tests for that day and our hormones fluctuate a lot so you’d need constant monitoring to really know.

My peri start has been insane, I was going 90+ days between, to now extremely unpredictable - sometimes short spans, sometimes heavy and bad cramps, to spotting that lasts two weeks with no cramps. then another 60 days free, then boom two almost back to back.

I did not get retested BUT the most bizarre thing happened last fall…. I bled for six weeks (a one week pause after three weeks) and I switched to a mirena IUD in January. No bleeding since. Energy can fluctuate still. Thanks for asking!
