Eh, that’s your view of it. I first came across this joke in high school, with our chemistry teacher. He didn’t do it to feel superior; if he wanted to do that he could humiliate us in different ways. He used it as a teaching opportunity to show how a slight exaggeration on true facts and a complicated sounding word could confuse people.

He probably also did it to show us why learning some chemistry nomenclature could help us out. He was a fun teacher that loved showing us the joy of science, not a condescending asshole.

You seem to think we all enjoy tricking people, but there are several comments here explaining the joke for people who don’t get it. If they weren’t here, I or someone else would have. Not everyone who has a little fun with something someone doesn’t know yet does it maliciously.

The whole 1 in 10000 xkcd thing is something I love, and whenever my fellow IT people get angry that some client doesn’t know something we find obvious, I counter that there’s tons of law, fashion, medical etc stuff we dint know but our clients are experts at.

Mch stands for Machinist, a ranged gun class in FF14, and wildfire is an attack from said class that gets stronger the more hits you land during its duration. The max hits is 6, but enough lag and you can only get 5 of them off in the window. The game has a default 2.5 second global cool down between skills, though some gear and some skills can reduce that. In particular for Wildfire, you combine it with a skill that allows 5 hits of itself plus 1 other at 1.5s per cool down, but if you’re adding another .1 to each of those it can add up to miss unless very tight on timing.

Not a game breaker, but if you’re trying to push through your best performance because your group is failing at 1-2% you can’t really help not being mad at it.

Edit: in addition, the frustration isn’t you personally dying in some pvp, but your group of 8 friends you’re also holding back on fights. In addition to lowering damage, deaths can wear down your healers mp(and significantly lower your own damage output) so some tight mechanics can be harder to react, especially if your brain has you move wrong at first. None of these by themselves are terrible, but over the course of 3 hours working at clearing multiple fights it can wear you out and kill your enjoyment.

Very intelligent people can like childish fart jokes and dad jokes. It has nothing to do with their intelligence; people just have opinions on humor. I don’t like scatological jokes, but I don’t try to define someone’s intelligence with it. That would be extremely stupid, as they are not related.

I’m weird. I can fully recognize the part that taste like soap. It isn’t strong or overpowering, but I can recognize the taste. Still love cilantro for the rest of the flavors it gives. I guess kinda like how beets taste a bit like dirt to me, but I still like beets and beet juice. Or truffle oil having an “earthy” flavor to me.

Another kinda wild theory that some scientists think may be valid is that we’re inside a gravistar. If so, maybe the gravistar is spinning, like many black holes do

I think over 100 starts making your off-gcds clip on FFXIV, and stuff like getting 6 hits properly for Wildfire on MCH(probably some other stuff too). It’s not unplayable, but it is frustrating and distracting, so can cause an ADHD person like me significant stress when doing content like Savage raids and Ultimates

World has blocked some interesting instances, which is why I’m not on it (blocked piracy, which I don’t actively do but I do like seeing their posts, as it often also helps get a tone on some security things, just like privacy).

Subjective. I don’t find the word cop all that cool, and nowadays it gives me a negative impression. Police Officer sounds just like a formal title, like Representative, Principal, Judge, etc.

So, did you bring this up as a problem where a solution should occur, or just asking to feel sorry for them? To the person experiencing violence, sure, we could recommend therapy, or be empathetic, but if we do nothing to address the root cause it won’t stop it at best,and at worst we start victim blaming.

This post is more about the cause not wanting to understand they’re the issue, and you brought in another issue caused by the same toxic masculinity, then got defensive when that was pointed out.

To want empathy for your problems is natural. If you just want empathy and not a solution, there is a time and place for that too. However what you are doing here is either trying to derail the conversation, or making it about something that wasn’t the original convo(usually done by someone making it about themselves, but I don’t know you enough to make that specific of an accusation).

If you want to fight for mens rights and proper treatment, that’s wonderful. However doing it by attacking/derailing women complaining about the same issues is not. It’s closer to when women’s suffrage movement wanted only freedom for white women.

He’s also friends with Howard Taylor(or at least did 18 seasons of a podcast with him) who is also mormon but writes a reasonably hard scifi comic. I don’t recall if there was any direct or implied bigotry that wasn’t treated as a bad thing, but I don’t recall any specifically lgbt characters either. Some races didn’t really have sexes, or didn’t have sexual dimorphism iirc, but it’s been a while.

Well, he has wrote people having sex, just not the scenes themselves, in both Warbeaker and Mistborn. I think in all those cases they were married though…

He is, doesn’t hide it, and goes about researching stuff he shouldn’t religiously agree with by interviewing people of those beliefs/experiences instead of using his own perceptions, from what I’ve seen and read of his process for Stormlight (where iirc, a gay relationship is seen as more normal and acceptable than a woman having a hand exposed).
