No luck needed, it’ll go fine. You pretty obviously have all the experience you need.

I remember the first raindrop and the first acorn… I knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless - before the Linux Kernel came from Outside.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which of your most fucked up exes tried to come back to your life in the most fucked up way?
4·4 days agoJust imagine doing that to another person, a person you care about. There are some true monsters in this world.
Better for what? The question in isolation is fairly meaningless.
Classic Shell was great, made my life with Windows 8.1 a lot more manageable.

Linux@programming.dev•Easiest way to change distros after having settled comfortably into one?
121·6 days agoDon’t take what Linux users say as gospel. There’s a wide variety of opinions that - yes - generally have some basis in truth, but usually it comes down to personal preference. Just because a vocal minority hates on systemd doesn’t mean you now have to switch to Devuan. FOSS is full of opinionated and passionate people, but you should always use what works for you. Don’t let others dictate how you use your computer and what code you run. Free as in freedom.
Now, having said all that, Canonical is suspect, don’t use Ubuntu. Mint is fine.

I hope this means they’ll release it on GOG.

Pine64@lemmy.ml•I'm thinking of buying a Pinephone. Trying to get an idea off what I'm getting into...
2·7 days agoUnfortunately, I agree. I had to drop my PinePhone because my carrier has a different APN for internet and MMS, which made MMS unusable. If you intend to use the PP, those issues are to be expected. Workarounds exist, but they are not reliable.
Other than that, the phone is really slow and has low battery life. If you’re really determined, you can daily drive it, but it’s nowhere near the experience you will have on an Android phone. Forget Youtube, only light web browsing is doable. And the web isn’t very light these days.
I love what the PinePhone is trying to be, but it’s not there yet, not by a long shot. It pains me to say, but don’t get one unless you’re ready to work for your phone. With low enough demands, it can be done, but no guarantees.

Russians can be an inscrutable people for sure.

6·7 days agoStill working my way through Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Demons. So far it’s ok, but certainly not one of my favorite books from Dostoyevsky. Like with many Russian classics, I have some trouble understanding the mores of 19th century Russian society.
On the side I’m listening to a local radio play adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. It’s pretty good, but I find myself not liking HG2G as much as I once did. Adams is a funny writer, but perhaps I find the plot weak, and that matters to me more these days. Still, some bits are hilarious, and the cast does a great job.
It was 20 years ago and Microsoft was terrible and Windows was awful. Later on I used Windows 8.1 somewhat out of necessity until it was deprecated and went back to Linux because Microsoft is terrible and Windows 10/11 is awful, but now with all kinds of invasive telemetry.

81·10 days agoStallman outlined our choices and told us this is where we were headed back in the 1980’s. Since then, we have consistently made the wrong decisions. All is not lost, but the situation is dire.
The choices are there, you just have to be willing to inconvenience yourself.

29·10 days agoYou must understand: It’s not your TV, it’s LG’s, and they will do with it what ever they want, and not to your benefit. This is the future we chose.
I have a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this comment box is too narrow to contain.

God Was Never On Your Side by Motörhead. Lemmy was always highly critical of religion, and I think that is his definitive statement on the matter. He’s an underappreciated writer.
