Depends on the condition being measured. I’ve heard similar claims about democracies. I know the OG democracy in Athens Greece lasted about 250 years. I’m not aware of another democracy that existed longer than the US … But I’m not an expert in the field, so i welcome examples of longer lived democracies.

If your entire work is derived from other people’s works then I’m not okay with that. There’s a difference between influence and just plain reproduction. I also think the way we look at piracy from the consumer side and stealing from the creative side should be different. Downloading a port of a sega dreamcast game is not the same as taking someone else’s work and slapping your name on it.

Why the fuck do you want sane people fleeing the US? Although things seem dire, we are still hoping to claw power away from fascists. If we can flip the legislature away from Republican control in 2 years, we at least get enough power to stop most of the bullshit from happening.

But the last scene with misato and shinji wasn’t about her being starved for attention. It was clearly an attempt to motivate shinji in overcoming his sense of hopelessness and fatalism. It was still fucked up but her putting moves on Kenji wasn’t related to her need for attention. She was also trying to mask the severity of her wound. Shinji didn’t need the additional stress of knowing she was on death’s door while he was trying to “save the world.” He needed motivation that something in his life would be waiting for him after he succeeded.

Ok, historically some political leaders felt that raping all brides before their wedding night was a great honor bestowed upon the family. Egyptian royalty had slaves, family members and pets murdered or buried alive with them when they died.

Human history is full of it’s leaders doing shitty and horrendous things… We can either sit here and microanalyze whatever country or set of leaders we want to single out or just recognize that historically everybody in power was a piece of shit, and look for ways to do better and make our leaders do better.

Does anyone here think that the United States and the world is better off with Donald Trump in power as opposed to Kamala Harris? If your answer to that question is " but Kamala supported Israel too hard"… Then my original comment about perfection and goodness is for you.

Instead of actually working towards something better, let’s just spend our time arguing over things we can’t change. /S
