  • It actually works for some, but not for the reasons people think it does… If there is going to be a promotion, happy, or at least happy looking people are far most likely to get it, so they can motivate others. In most cases, this selection is based on internal biases rather than explicit requirements, but there are many people in power who actually consider it as a factor.

Another one is the impostor syndrome, those techniques make you believe you deserve anything good coming your way, and think yourself responsible for anything positive that happens in your life, so just like religion, if you got it it is thanks to you for believing in that higher power, and if you didn’t, it is beecause it wasn’t the time, your deity of choice has something better waiting for you, because ultimately it wasn’t going to be good for you, or because you didn’t pray/believe/manifest it good enough.

They try to cover self doubt with a bandaid and confirmation bias, which can work, and make the people who follow those tenants more secure, more willing to take risks, and more easygoing, but also makes them far more prone to mistakes and being too stubborn.

For the most part, keeping a happy face works just the same, and people who believe this things are so delusional, multiple people at work told me it was because of my change in attitude that I won a raffle, when that change in attitude was not because of that bullshit, but because I had given up and was already looking for a new job, and completely stopped doing work stuff on my free time just to keep up.

  • Matter of taste. With my last husband, we just placed both our salaries into a shared account, took all the expenses out of it, then split the remainder 50/50. Each one could do whatever they wanted with their half, and we even had a flex account for house expenses that weren’t covered in the original expenses calculation, and it worked great.

Shrink wrap was the most accurate at the time, especially accounting for reptiles, which were the original inspiration for said technique.

And since most soft tissue doesn’t fossilize, they were doing the best they could with the tools they had.

And while they were often wrong, I would like to see you try to guess what the animals looked like, based on skull alone, and compare your accuracy against the people you’re calling lazy, probably from the comfort of your own toilet.

  • I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Hell, the dad of one of my classmates on HS, also a Christian priest, would beat, torment and even rape his wife when enraged, and would flagellate his back bloody as a sign of contrition to her and their god.

Few weeks would pass, and she would make “one mistake”, and the cycle of violence would begin again. Hell, I only know this because he ran away and stayed at my house for a few weeks, until his mom finally presented charges and got him out of the house.

Being a piece of shit rapist and a true believer Christian are not mutually exclusive.

  • Sure, it feels kinda nice but then gestures broadly at everything, that momentary “nice” feeling isn’t going to get me out of debt, isn’t a guarantee that I won’t be fired and replaced the moment I am too old or sick to work, isn’t going to get me out of my current “On a diet for financial reasons” financial situation.

It is like trying to cure depression with a breath mint. Plus, the usual “Company reports growth and record profits but certainly cannot afford to give raises to you, bottom feeders, keep making profits for us who sit at the top and be thankful you even get a chance to do so”, sure sucks all the joy out of everything.
