Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Safari extensions on iOS let you redirect reddit urls to an alternative1·2 years agoLibredirect does a similar thing on Firefox desktop. I use it to redirect all Reddit links to my locally hosted libreddit and YouTube redirects to random invidious instances so that it’s different every time.
As far as I’m aware this was possible before the api changes. I’m not sure it’s possible anymore
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Gaming@lemmy.ml•Boltgun: New patch just dropped. Lots of quality of life improvements, bug fixes, and most importantly, the game is now fully playable on Steam Deck!English4·2 years agoI just picked this up in the sale and this is a genuinely fun game. I’m not even a Warhammer fan but this is very reminiscent of Doom with both the graphics and enemy types. It’s a pretty short game, I’m about 5 hours in and just over halfway through.

Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Isn’t it a bit of an annoying having repeat communities across various Lemmy instances?English51·2 years agoTo be honest I don’t see the issue with multiple similar communities. It’s no different to how Reddit would have many subreddits with similar themes. For example on Reddit there were dozens of Star Wars subs so people would subscribe to them all
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is Lemmy THE reddit alternative for you? Are you thinking about moving somewhere else?English2·2 years agoIf you’re on iOS you could check out memmy, it is heavily inspired by Apollo and has just been published on the App Store
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Memmy - An iOS client for Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Is there a way to filter communities out from the local and all feeds?English6·2 years agoYou can block communities which will stop them showing up on the all/local pages. Go to the community page, tap the three dots at the top and press block :)

Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What operating system do you use on your main computer?English3·2 years agoI use Kubuntu for the kde plasma desktop. It made the switch from windows much easier. I dual boot and occasionally use windows if I want to play a game which doesn’t have Linux support
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People of Lemmy, what do you use to read posts on Lemmy?English1·2 years agoI’ve tried all the apps and honestly they are all great. I use memmy mainly as I much prefer the UI. The only app I haven’t tried is mlem because it would not let me sign in and gave me an error whenever I tried
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Has anyone used vpshostingservice.co before?English1·2 years agoI found a code on LowEndBox which gives me 2GB RAM on a Linux vps for $2. I would be included to agree with you for their normal pricing though

Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why should I get a VPS over self hosting?English4·2 years agoThat’s really helpful thanks. My main reason for considering switching is for availability when outside of my home. I know I could port-foward but I am concerned about the security risks of that. I might buy one for just a month or two to see how it might help
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why should I get a VPS over self hosting?English2·2 years agoI hadn’t really considered hardware problems although I suppose that’s a rather negligible cost. I probably only have to replace my own hard drives every 3 years or so. I appreciate the insight!
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why should I get a VPS over self hosting?English1·2 years agoApologies, I meant rent a VPS. When I mentioned self hosting I meant hosting it myself on my own hardware and my own network

Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldto RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Anyone else crazy enough to build their own retro-gaming machine?English2·2 years agoI’ve always wanted to but it seems dauntingly expensive and tricky to do. Any tips?
Nice thanks!
Fudgeknuckles98@lemmy.worldMto PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Are there laptop coolers that actually produce a lot of air and make a real difference?English1·2 years agoI used to have some generic cooling bad which I bought on eBay for around £15. It was pretty similar to this. It worked best when I had it at about a 35 degree angle and had the laptop aligned so that the cooling pad blew air over the laptop exhaust. This would both increase the amount of cool air that the laptop could suck in, and displace the hot air near the exhaust.
My laptop would also regularly hit 100c and then thermal throttle itself but the pad definitely allowed me to get a few more frames out before the throttling kicked in.
Ah that makes sense, I hadn’t considered that https would mess this up. I actually already use libredirect on Firefox on my desktop, I was just hoping to set up a network wide redirect. Thanks for the help!
