I think the intent is that you pull out a fresh card and stick it to the side of the receiver, basically a removable sidesaddle shell holder. The Velcro makes it easy to discard the spent holder and slap on a new one. I’ve never used them, but I also don’t do competitive shooting, just hunting. Even a single strap over a pile of lumber like that will create enough friction against the bed to keep it from sliding around. Not sure what would happen in a collision, but it works well for normal stop and go forces.
