The moment The Pain subsides even slightly means “I must achieve everything I possibly can since I don’t know if/when I’ll be able to again” and then paying for it dearly. A “good” day is catnip.

Between subtitles and the ability to pause/watch in segments I’ve been able to take in and enjoy a lot more movies than I would be able to otherwise.

Accessibility and ease of use should not be condemned for the sake of some “purity” ideal.

That said, if I’m in a movie theater I will absolutely shut my phone, pay attention, and be respectful. Basic consideration in public spaces should always be a given.

I’m of the worldview that while technically there is no “meaning,” doesn’t mean there’s no effect (even if it’s infinitesimal). Just because there’s no purpose in pushing a ball across a table, it still moves when you touch it.

It also places, in philosophical framing, that humans are the creators and arbiters of the concept of our own “meaning.” The fact that we ask of it, and in some cases find there is no such thing from external forces, suggests that it comes from us. However you go from there is the beauty of the notion.

Volunteer, hands down. Local community stuff, create something akin to a co-op public broadcasting channel, spend time with my animals, bake and donate goods.

Am I the only one who prefers face-to-face over everything else?

It’s the only form of comms where I have all the information/cues to interpret, and no bullshit lag.

1. In person - all cues, real time.

2. Text - verbal comms, gives me a chance to read. No body language or tone to glean from though.

3. I hate audio calls because I’m hard of hearing, sound quality is shit and I can’t lip read or respond on my own time.

4. Video is somehow worse since now two sensory inputs are fucked due to awful stream quality/lag and my usual methods of trying to understand what’s said are shot. Worse, people expect it to be “better” because I can see now and it makes me angrier. 🙃
