How I never even started dating adobe.
- looks at adobe licensing prices, cries
- discovers FOSS alternatives, laughs menacingly
Depends on what do you for a living and what the alternative tool is. If you’re a professional creative that is working in a larger creative team, it’s hard to break free because of workflows, compatibility with oddball features, or you’ve hired people who are know how to fly at warp speed in CS, but are going to slow way down when they have to build muscle memory for a new tool. .
This is true. The whole team would need to switch.
It can happen if the tool offers a clear productivity boost.
It can also happen if the competing product does what Figma did. Clone your competitors layout, keyboard commands, workflows, then just add on a bunch of cool new toys.
I use a lot of FOSS software but I tried replacing lightroom with darktable and I just couldn’t, the UI was so bad
The fork Ansel, is supposed to improve on the UI situation.
That, but in-between 1 and 2
- yarr
I’d say you’re better off actually ripping off the bandaid if you can.
The more users that actually use Foss alternatives. The more the foss community will benefit.
That’s why I said ‘between’ - it’s been well beyond a decade since I used anything adobe. I actually moved to Affinity myself, but a friend is enjoying Krita so I might give that a go the next time I need a proper editor for a project.
It’s boggling how adobe still has the university market by the balls and how that’s all they teach for multimedia, at least where I’m from. Even in high school, Apple computers and Adobe software, “it’s what the industry uses”, and that’s why I got into it myself; but I always was so perplexed - to use a tired phrase - if ‘the industry’ jumped off a bridge, would [they] follow? It sure seems like most in the education sphere would say “happily!” and leap to their demise.
You can get GIMP surprisingly far with addons such as PhotoGIMP (adds Photoshop shortcuts and improveS GUI), Resynthesizer (Adds content aware fill), and G’mic (adds hundreds of powerful filters and tools, such as an assisted cropping tool. Also works with Krita).
Spot on. Both Windows and Adobe (mostly the company) have become junk.
Fantastic video! Love his work
What is that?
