Carney said a byelection should be held as quickly as possible to give Poilievre an opportunity to win a seat in the House of Commons, if that’s what the Conservative Party wants.
Poilievre lost his seat in Ottawa’s Carleton riding on Monday after holding it for more than 20 years, so he’s in the unusual position of being a party leader without a seat.
“I already told Mr. Poilievre that I will trigger a byelection if that is the decision of the Conservative Party,” he said in French.
Then, in English: “I will ensure that it happens as soon as possible. No games, nothing.”
While I don’t want PP to get a seat I think that’s a very solid move by Carney. I like his no nonsense, no games approach a lot. He just won another point with me.
He’s a functioning adult, it’s great
So overdue!
It’s a chance to flip another seat blue to red.
Case A: PP gets a seat and has to do his job, blue to blue
Case B: a blue seat flips red and PP looks even stupider, and liberals get closer to a majority.
i hate to say it but lemmy.ca is among the worst servers for bad uninformed takes. The Conservative won with over 80% of the vote share in that riding, PP is a coward for running there but he won’t come close to losing.
A lot of conservatives have a personal distaste for him being a loser, and doing this.
And the fact that whether he wins or loses the seat has no actual bearing on liberals still being in control.
So a lot of conservatives are considering voting him out to send a message they specifically hate PP so the conservatives elect a better leader
What we would wanna see, ideally, is a conservative leaning local independent who us popular and well known, like a radio host or mayor or etc.
That person could prolly beat PP and send a message.
Sure, let’s have a byelection and get a chance to flip another conservative seat… what a glorious day it will be to see pp lose another seat!
Just gotta wait for the CPC leadership review. They haven’t been kind to leaders who failed to beat Liberals yet.
Wonder how they’ll be this time.
The riding PP is moving to voted 83.4% facist. Liberal was next with 11.4%.
The guy he is replacing is from a colonial farm and worked in the oil and gas industry.
From his parliamentary record: No work of note. Sponsored an anti-native troll bill that never got anywhere. Likes to pretend that he speaks for other ridings, provided they aren’t CPC.
Since 1968, it has been held by the PCs for 25 Years, Liberals for 2 years and Reform/CPC since 1993.
Colonial farm, like every other farm in the country. And what you got against oil and gas, let me guess you bike everywhere and everything you own is all natural ingredients.
No. There is a difference between former colonial farms and outright “this-is-land-his-direct-family-stole”.
And ah the standard personal attacks of the average redditor. How I have not missed you.
There is responsible O&G development, then there is US/Albertan approach. I oppose the latter.
You mean the later that follows environmental regulations and human rights conditions?
Don’t get me wrong yes heavy oil takes a lot of upgrading to produce but with the shear amount of it it makes sense. All oil and most of the taxes taken from it should be used to wean ourselves off oil but that is many many years away.
And to your comment about the personal attack, um think you threw the first attack to oil and gas workers.
And haven’t been on Reddit much for a bit now and I don’t usually comment, but trying to help Lemmy be active and here is the average redditor who is better than everyone else. Guess your oil is better than ours. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Not sure why him simply stating he worked in oil and gas triggered you so hard. It wasn’t some grand insult, it was more summing up who he is.
Really my response is such that you think I was triggered hard.
Jesus you people need to get a life.
Just trying to have a conversation.
Why? The CPC can get a new leader. Leaders that don’t win their seat shouldn’t be the leaders of that party.
That’s up to the CPC.
Carney said a byelection should be held as quickly as possible to give Poilievre an opportunity to win a seat in the House of Commons, if that’s what the Conservative Party wants.
Carney’s message is that he’s not interested in playing Parliamentary games. I’m not convinced it’s a good idea, but it’s an interesting move.
He can’t lose by doing this, if the CPC really wants Pollievre to stay, they’ll do it. Worst case it’s gonna be status quo but best case, he loses again and it flips a seat, presumably to the Libs, but more importantly away from the CPC.
What I am saying is that they should oust the leader who can’t win his own riding.
They probably will (as they have in the past), when they do the mandatory leadership review.
Even if PP wins this by-election, he will still face that review from the party.
But it’s not up to you. It’s set out in the CPC’s bylaws. You can read them yourself.
Oh, so my opinion must follow their rules?
Your opinion doesn’t change the law.
Huh, thanks capt. Obvious.
You’re welcome, Major Dickhead.
Your opinion should be informed and based on the facts of the matter, and even if it was, it is completely pointless because you have no power in the situation. Unless you happen to be a CPC donor in which case you should probably show up to the meetings if you want your voice heard, not a left leaning lemmy instance.
Knowing that they can keep him according to their bylaws does not change my opinion.
And regardless of my power you seem to be talking down to me and dictating how I should act.
I voiced my opinion you voiced your disagreement. You are now tone policing because you assumed my knowledge on a topic.
Knowing that they can keep him according to their bylaws does not change my opinion.
My point is your opinion is not useful in the conversation as it is not based in the facts of the matter. You are free to keep an ignorant point of view but it changes nothing.
I also gave you a better way to have that opinion heard. Join the CPC if you care so much.
And regardless of my power you seem to be talking down to me and dictating how I should act.
If you believe I am talking down to you that is your problem to solve. I am not dictating anything, I am simply telling you why your opinion based on nothing substantial is not important here.
I voiced my opinion you voiced your disagreement. You are now tone policing because you assumed my knowledge on a topic.
I never disagreed with you. I said your opinion isn’t worth anything in this conversation because it has no substance to back it up. Which is not “tone policing”.
I do hope this cleared things up for you.
What a tit.
That’s not nice to tits. Bird or body part.
I’m a big fan of tits myself.
It’s just a good, solid English name to call an idiot.
