Ewan would forget to tie his laces and trip during fight choreography practice. His clumsiness was known, yet George Lucas still demanded the scene be filmed with real lightsabers. Who is really to blame?

And then miraculously Darth Maul lived. I hate the retconning of dead villains in Star Wars.
I still remember the disappointment I felt as a kid when he was so easily dispatched. The character was so cool in appearance and style, then he just gets cut in half and falls down a hole. I think that it was supposed to demonstrate badass Obi-wan was, but it just didn’t hit.
Because he just stood there like a chump and took it after fighting them off 2v1 before. It’s so weird that the fight choreography just went from 100-0 because someone thought “flips are cool”
Honestly, if Obi-Wan had bisected him in mid-air or Force Pushed him on landing or anything I’d have bought it as Maul being genuinely surprised but there’s no way he couldn’t react in time otherwise.
